The Prevalence of hypertension in chronic cocaine users in Canada

Cocaine hypertension treatment is a necessary treatment in cases of cocaine overdose.

What is hypertension?

High blood pressure, also called hypertension, means there is too much pressure in your blood vessels. This can damage your blood vessels and cause health problems.  Anyone can develop high blood pressure, but it becomes more common as you get older.

Hypertension & Cocaine usage

Hypertension is a natural effect of cocaine use and overdose. As a potent stimulant, cocaine induces a euphoric high that stays for about an hour. This high is followed by a depressive low, wherein the euphoric sensation is once again sought.

In repeating this cycle of high/low, intake/seeking out, addiction begins. And as the body gets used to the illicit substance, more and more amounts are eventually needed to achieve previous euphoric states – thereby, creating risks of overdose.

Hypertension as a side effect

Symptoms of overdose include elevated blood pressure, body temperature, confusion and panic. These necessitate an immediate cocaine hypertension treatment. Cocaine hypertension treatment should be administered by a health professional.

Treatment

They start treatment by having the user take a sedative, such as diazepam. This helps calm the person down, control the blood pressure and normalize the individual’s rapid heartbeats. Acetaminophen may also be given to combat the increased body temperature that go with the hypertensive symptoms of cocaine overdose.

Once cocaine hypertension treatment is provided and has taken effect, medical practitioners may then treat the other symptoms, unique to the individual (depending on their reaction to the drug). Other symptoms may involve seizures, liver hepatitis, kidney failure and stroke.

In all cases, cocaine hypertension treatment is the first step in saving a user who overdosed on cocaine. Once in the clear of all symptoms of overdose and in a stable state, the much harder struggle of staying “clean” begins. Cocaine is one of the most lethal illicit drugs – it is also one of the most addictive.
